How to Check Smart NID Card Distribution Date by SMS

To check the distribution date of your Smart National Identity Card (NID) via SMS

Electors in Bangladesh can find out when their Smart NID card will be issued simply by sending a text message from any mobile network—whether it’s Grameenphone, Banglalink, Robi, Airtel or Teletalk. Follow the steps below:

  1. Open your phone’s messaging app.

  2. Type:

    SC <space> NID <space> Your-17-digit-NID

  3. Send this message to the number 105.

For example:

SC NID 19785432345654345

Send to: 105

Important:
If your NID has only 13 digits, you must prepend your four-digit birth year to it.

  • Suppose your 13-digit ID is 1234567891011 and your birth year is 1987; you would send:

    SC NID 19871234567891011

Send to: 105

To check your new Voter Registration Slip and Birthdate-based NID request via SMS

If you haven’t yet received an NID—because you’ve just applied—you can still inquire about your voter ID status by using your Registration Slip number and birthdate. Do the following:

  1. In your SMS composer, type:

    SC <space> F <space> Registration-Slip-Number <space> D <space> yyyy-mm-dd

  2. Send this to 105.

For example:

SC F X123456 D 1987-12-31

Send to: 105

To access your NID or Voter ID status online and download your ID PDF

  1. Go to the official Bangladesh Election Commission website at:
    https://services.nidw.gov.bd/

  2. Select the service for checking NID/Voter Card status.

  3. Enter either your 17-digit NID number or your Registration Slip number.

  4. Submit the form to view your Smart NID distribution date and download a PDF version of your ID card.

Understanding the 17-digit Smart NID number format

Bangladesh’s Election Commission upgraded the old 13-digit NID to a 17-digit format by adding your birth year at the front. Here’s how the full 17 digits break down:

  • Digits 1–4: Birth Year

  • Digits 5–6: District Code

  • Digit 7: RMO (Regional Mobile Office) Code

  • Digits 8–9: Upazila Code

  • Digits 10–11: Union/Ward Code

  • Digits 12–17: Personal Serial Number

The structure of the older 13-digit NID

Before the upgrade, IDs were 13 digits long (without the birth year). Their composition was:

  • Digits 1–2: District Code

  • Digit 3: RMO Code

  • Digits 4–5: Upazila Code

  • Digits 6–7: Union/Ward Code

  • Digits 8–13: Personal Serial Number
